Happy Halloween!

The boys had plenty of opportunities to wear their costumes this year! We started on Friday night at my parent's house and then on Saturday we went to a church "Trunk-or-Treat", as well as some trick-or-treating around the neighborhood. Here are some pictures from our Halloween activities:

Levi was The Cat in the Hat
Reuben was the Fish (from The Cat in the Hat)

The fish in his fishbowl

Gotta love that cat!

Trunk-or-Treating with Larry the Cucumber (Henry) and Bob the Tomato (Meleah)

Matt & I joined in the fun on Saturday
(Thing 1 & Thing 2)

Another picture of the Dr. Seuss Family

The fish minus his fishbowl

Off to some more houses!

Trick or Treat!!

Thing 1 got a little creative with his costume!

I made the goldfish costume. I started with another kid costume pattern and modified it to look like the fish. The "bowl" was made from tulle and embroidery hoops. The straps velcroed to the costume shoulders so that my son would be able to ride in his car seat :)

Would you be able to make another fish bowl for an adult. I work at a doctors office and we are doing a Cat in the hat Halloween party and I am having a hard time making one. How much would you charge? Please email me at mistyrains@yahoo.com

Hi can you please email me (I can't find your email) or can you post how to do the fish costume? What other kid costume did you start with and steps to modify it? Thanks!

I started with the Simplicity 2506 pattern. I made the jumpsuit in orange fleece with velcro for the closure in the back and I didn't do elastic around the ankles. For the hat I used the pattern for the dinosaur hat (minus the fins on top) and added a strip with the fish fins (that I free-handed) down the back that attached with snaps to the jumpsuit. For the eyes, I used felt and hot glued it to the hat. I found a picture of the fish from Cat in the Hat online and then used that for my eye "pattern". The details for the bowl are in a previous comment, but basically I used parts from 2 different size embroidery hoops (one a little larger for the middle)and hot glued blue tulle to all three to form the bowl shape when it was hanging from straps attached to the shoulders of the costume.
Hope this helps - let me know if you have more questions!

I didn't find a big enough embroidery hoop at my store, but instead I am going to use the rings from a wreath form. But did you put some sort of fabric on the hoop itself to glue the tulle to? I'm trying to tell from the picture but not sure. And is that strips of cardboard on the side of the bowl?

Thanks!

Sandy, you have good eyes! Yes, I did hot glue some fabric (felt, I think) to the hoops and then glued the tulle to that. I used some strips of cardboard to try and provide some structure to the "bowl", but they did bend a bit in use.

So this is going to be random.... But if the goldfish costume is close to a 3T would you be willing to sell it? Or would you be willing to make one - name your price! My kids want to be the Cat in the Hat, Thing 1 & 2, and the goldfish... But I have zero sewing skills.

I swear that I'm not a crazy person but my 4 year old son looks 100% just like your son (the goldfish). I would love the opportunity to speak with you and possibly send a picture to show you or whatever if you could contact me. My email is mnickoleg0114@gmail.com
